Small Business Marketing

People always think that Marketing need to be expensive but in my view it doesn't. Here are 5 easy/ low cost ways to market your business....

1) Regular Blogging

Most marketers will tell you that digital marketing is one of the most effective ways to market your business. 90% of all purchase decisions for any product or service involve the internet at some point whether it is to find potential vendors, understand products and service or just to figure out options.

Assuming you have a website one of the best ways to get your website found is to get your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) ranking up. Blogging is the best way to get your SEO up.

The challenge with blogging is that you have to do it regularly and consistently and you need to make it interesting. People will only follow your blog if there are regular interesting posts. So be consistent and publish regularly.

2) Fortnightly Webinar

Webinars are another low cost way of marketing. People will attend an interesting webinar. You can purchase the software to run the webinar for a cost of less than $100 per month. Webinars shouldn't be long (say 20 minutes) and if the webinar topic is a good one with good attendance and feedback you can recycle the content and run it again. The only challenge with webinars is that you have to advertise them broadly as it is not unusual for there to be a 50% drop out rate from the people that register to the people that attend. So if you want 20 people to attend then 40 need to register.

3) Monthly Email Newsletter

Writing a monthly email newsletter can be very effective. Have a couple of different versions of the newsletter, one for prospects, another for customers and a third for partners. Keep the newsletter(s) brief but topical. It's a good way to touch your customers and prospects and keep top of mind with them.

4) Quarterly Customer Event

Customers love talking to other customers. Why not have a regular get together for them. Include breakfast or lunch and a few topical presentations (free training) for them. Make sure you give them time to socialise. We used to do regular customer events and they loved it. It was a great excuse for them to get out of their office and meet people in similar situations.

5) Apply for an Industry Award

Most industries have their own associations which have regular awards programs. More often than not you have to apply for the award and applying is free. It usually takes some effort to put a good application in and you are not guaranteed to win the award or even be a runner up. But the publicity you'll get from evening being a runner up will be worth it and an industry award builds instant credibility with customers and prospects.

So there your go... five easy/ low cost ways to market your business.

I've got lots more cheap/ low cost marketing ideas but they will be the subject of future blog posts (reference point #1)! 😊
